Painting Built-in Shelves: Project Photos and Video!
Built-in cabinets are a great feature in many homes, providing an attractive place for storage and for displaying decorative items. One problem with them, however, is that if they begin to look worn out or outdated, you can't replace them very easily. Fortunately, Williams Professional Painting has a solution for that! Our kitchen cabinet painting services can easily be applied to other parts of the home, including bathroom cabinets or built-in book cases.
Let's take a walk through one of our recent projects here in the Washington, D.C. area, to give you a fuller picture of how this works.
Built-in Cabinet Painting: Step 1
With all cabinet painting projects, we begin by removing any parts that can be taken off. This includes drawer faces, cabinet doors, shelves, and any hardware like knobs, pulls, shelf supports or hinges. Next, we use painter's tape and plastic to carefully protect all nearby surfaces.
Built-in Cabinet Painting: Step 2
Before we can begin painting, the prior coating often needs to be scuffed up (or even removed) so the new paint can adhere better. Once everything is ready, we can begin applying new coatings!
Depending on the prior finish on the wood, and the type of paint we are applying, we may begin with a coat of primer.

Built-in Cabinet Painting: Step 3
With all the new coatings applied, it is time to remove all our protective tape and plastic, and reassemble all the parts. When you step back and take a look, the finished product is pretty exciting!
