Painting a Historic Steeple in Alexandria, VA - Part 2
Now that we finished painting this beautiful, historically rich steeple, I wanted to follow up with some in-progress and final photos. You can check out more pictures on our Facebook page, or learn more about the project by reading our first post.
A Brief Walk Through this Exterior Painting Project
First, let’s step way, way back. Take a look at this photo from the 19th century. It can be all too easy to walk by history every day, forgetting the power, significance, and deep roots of the places around us. Pictures like this make you stop and think about what the lives and faces looked like of the grainy figures in black and white.
And below you can see us getting started on the steeple, having carefully built the scaffolding and refreshing all safety procedures! Isn't it amazing to think about how that's the very same steeple in the picture above? It was a real privilege to be asked to breathe new life into the tired exterior paint.
The caption below speaks for itself! Aside from all the significance of being on that spot, the view alone was worth the trip. This is actually the highest point in Alexandria, affording you a view into Washington D.C. and Maryland. No wonder it played such an interesting part in the history of the Civil War.
The two pictures below give you a little sense of the transformation that took place! Through careful preparation and proper procedure we were able to revitalize this steeple's exterior, and what a difference!
Finally, the steeple is complete! Brilliant and strong, as it should be.
